MOULD REMEDIATION

Mould Remediation

 Initial Assessment

  • Inspection: Professionals will begin by inspecting the property to identify mould growth. This involves visual inspection, taking moisture readings, and sometimes using air quality testing to pinpoint mould spores.
  • Containment Plan: Based on the extent of the mould, they will plan how to contain it to prevent spores from spreading to uncontaminated areas during the abatement process.

Preparation

  • Containment: Erect physical barriers like plastic sheeting to isolate the work area. Negative air pressure machines might be used to ensure that any mould spores are drawn away from clean areas.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Workers wear protective clothing, gloves, goggles, and masks to avoid exposure.
  • HVAC Shutdown: If necessary, the HVAC system might be turned off to prevent the circulation of spores.

Mold Removal

  • Dry Out: If moisture is still present, dehumidifiers and fans are used to dry out affected areas.
  • Removal: Mould-infested materials that cannot be cleaned are removed. This could include drywall, insulation, or carpet.
  • Cleaning: Surfaces are cleaned using HEPA vacuums, damp wiping, or other approved methods to remove mould and spores. Antimicrobial treatments might be applied to prevent future growth.

Disposal

  • Waste Management: All mouldy materials are bagged in double-thick plastic bags and disposed of according to local regulations to prevent contamination spread.

Cleaning and Sanitizing

  • Thorough Cleaning: After removal, the area is cleaned again to ensure no mould spores remain. This includes cleaning all tools and equipment used in the process.
  • Sanitization: Depending on the situation, a sanitizer or biocide might be used to treat the area, though this is more common in severe cases.

Final Inspection

  • Post-Remediation Verification: Air samples or surface swabs might be taken to verify that mould levels are back to normal or acceptable levels.
  • Clearance Testing: In some cases, an independent third-party might perform clearance testing to ensure the work was done correctly.

Restoration

  • Repairs: Any materials removed or damaged during the abatement process are repaired or replaced. This could involve minor repairs like painting or more significant reconstruction.
  • Preventive Measures: Recommendations are given to prevent future mould growth, like improving ventilation, fixing leaks, or using mould-resistant materials.

Documentation

  • Report: A detailed report of the process, findings, and actions taken is often provided to the homeowner or property manager. This can include before and after photos, test results, and recommendations for ongoing maintenance.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Our  professionals always follow guidelines from WorkSafeBC, the BC Ministry of Health, and adhere to local building codes regarding mould remediation. Hiring qualified mould remediation professionals is crucial for ensuring that the job complies with health and safety standards.

This process ensures that mould is not only removed but also that conditions are corrected to prevent its recurrence, providing a healthier environment for occupants.
